Short Sorties signed by W E Johns
This book is part of the Margaret Collins collection. Margaret Collins was Johns's niece and she inherited his personal reading library. This copy is signed by Johns. The inscription to the front end paper reads "Bing from Bill June 1950". Bing is probably John's brother.
The top and bottom edges of the front and rear boards are faded as is the top and bottom of the spine. The outside corners are bumped. The text block is foxed and this has spread heavily to pages 160 to 170 and to some margins throughout. The foxing is also on the rear end paper and inside board.
Dust wrapper/ The bottom edge of the front panel has a 3cm x 3cm loss to the right hand corner. There is a 1/2 cm closed tear with creasing attached to the bottom edge. There is 1cm edge loss to the top of the spine affecting the title. There is also 3cm loss to the bottom of the spine affecting the publisher. This corresponds with the fading to the book, which indicates that this book is not a marriage. There are creases to the top and bottom edges of the rear panel. The top and bottom corners of the front and rear flap have chips. Not price cut. The rear of the jacket is foxed./2211
