Biggles on Mystery Island Proof copy W E Johns

First edition editors proof copy,dated 1957 to the rear and published in 1958.There was likely to be only about 10 of these preproduction proofs printed for editorial/publicity departments and this is probably  the only one of this title in existence.Publisher stamp to back cover "PROOF 21 AUG 1957 C TINLING & CO LTD Liverpool, London & Prescot." The proof differs from the first edition in that Biggles Presses On has been added to the front list. There is also no colour frontis/plates or list of illustrations (this page is blank).Lastly on the first edition the no 51 is bodly on the half title.On the proof this is a black square.The front cover has a small crease to the bottom right hand corner. And minor edge rubs to the front The entire book is clean and the binding very tight./1803
