ORIGINAL PROOF COPY 1960 (the book was published in 1961)
There was probably only about 10 of these preproduction proofs printed for editorial/publicity department.This is likely to be the only one of this title proof  in existence.
To back cover publishers stamp and within that stamp are the following words. "PROOF 8 Aug 1960. C. Tinling & Co Liverpool, London & Prescott Also in pencil it says "print January 61".This differs from the 1st edition in that there is no Frontispiece ",the statement  "the characters in this book are entirely imaginary and bear no relation to any living person"  is in a different place and there is no Biggles titles list to the back.1.5cm x 4 cm loss to top right hand of front cover. Foxing to text block and right hand side of front cover., also to rear panel .The author and title have been written in to the spine in pen by the publisher.Internally clean and near VG./1799
